I realize he is not bright, and probably was just clumsy in his wording. But he didn't apologize for saying they should be executed, just that he called for using lethal injection. Apparently a firing squad would be acceptable to him.
Regardless of the semantics, it's pretty obvious he was forced to apologize and he does believe in the death penalty for being too poor to afford housing and or being mentally ill.
