At the time Paul blasted Trump he said what if the boat was headed for Trinidad not the US? It turns out he wasn't just throwing that out there he had been told by someone with knowledge that in fact they believed the boat WAS headed to Trinidad.
The boat turned because they realized they were being tracked they saw that but the US blew them up anyways. But Paul's comment about Trinidad was apparently based on him being tipped off by someone that they did indeed think Trinidad not the US was the destination. Paul actually says 2700 miles was the distance to the US
