Data on Gun Crimes and Homicides
Criminal vs. justifiable homicides:
In 2019, the FBI reported 9,610 criminal gun homicides compared to 316 justifiable homicides by private citizens.
Ratio of criminal to justifiable homicides:
This translates to a ratio of 30 criminal homicides for every one justifiable homicide using a firearm.
