In the new video he says he said "let's take a look at Palin" then it was all out of his hands.
In the old video, the hose is saying "you were dead unless you did something dramatic, so you pick Sarah Palin" He says "Sure." He's saying "politically, she was a net positive." and he absolves Palin for any responsibility for the loss.

In the clip you linked, he's distancing himself from the decision wayyyyyyyyyyy more than in the one the other one.
