Three times TRUMPS DOJ tried, and 3 times judges blocked them.
Judge Richard Berman (Manhattan: Appointed by Bill Clinton):
Denied the government's request to unseal grand jury transcripts related to Epstein's criminal case on August 20, 2025. He found the government had not met the high legal threshold for unsealing, noting the material was a "hearsay snippet" compared to the vast amount of other Epstein-related files the government already possessed.
Judge Paul Engelmayer (Manhattan: Appointed by Barack Obama):
Denied a separate request from Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers for access to grand jury materials on July 23, 2025. He ruled there was no "compelling necessity" for them to review the documents at that stage, stating that the high bar for unsealing was not met.
Judge Robin Rosenberg (Florida:Appointed by Barack Obama):
Denied the Justice Department's request to unseal grand jury transcripts from an earlier investigation into Epstein in Florida on July 23, 2025. She stated that the documents did not meet extraordinary exceptions under federal law that would permit their public release.
