Folk music was a huge part of the resistance movement against Japanese colonial rule. I grew up learning and singing them even though decades had passed since Korea was liberated. That's why I instantly fell in love with Dylan, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and of course Woody Guthrie. I could sense a lot of similarities, oddly enough. Maybe the music of resistance is universal? Can we revive it for the third time now that the threat of fascism is here?

John Denver's songs were really popular in Korea in the 70s. Sunshine and Take Me Home, Country Roads were huge hits. Everybody has their own West Virginia they fondly remember and long for. It's universal.
