It was systematic, based on how we were using phones to track "terrorists" and as soon as a few of those appeared in the same location, we bombed the place without any interest in finding out what we were actually bombing. There was never any thought paid to how phones change hands, who these people are in real life and who else hung around with them
All that happens because the US military command did not see those people as people and couldn't care less that they were bombing one wedding after another. It wasn't just a couple of stray incidents, it was happening in a maddening consistency. Because they simply didn't care.
2008 ... there were a lot of shenanigans that got us there. Most of all, when the government decided to bail out these financial institutions, there were no strings attached, no attempt made to replace the top management with responsible people to clean up the mess they made. The top layer was allowed to go on their merry ways as if everything was cool beans. I personally connect the birth of MAGA and the acceleration of modern populist hard right's rise to that point in time. Maybe that's just me.
Yeah ... the Clarence Thomas affair. That and Bill Clinton's turn towards neoliberalism ... 90s were simpler t8imes. We were all a little naive at the time, no clue what hellhole that was waiting for us just around the corner.
