I used the example of Barry Odom when he was at UNLV and they were making a run at the CFP a while back. He turned things quickly there, but what I liked was he was constantly drumming up any kind of press he could and constantly engaging fans and thanking them after every home game. He wasn't just competing with other teams, he was competing with the Raiders and the Golden Knights in the city.
Last year was as low as I think I could get as a Ucla football fan. Just felt like it would take a miracle to salvage anything and to have a shot of building the name back up when Ucla is competing against $C, the Chargers, the Rams, the Lakers, the Dodgers, and then everyone in the B10. It just felt like a VERY tall order. Chesney has done everything I could have possibly hoped for so far and more. I also think Ucla greatly benefited from WBB winning the NC.
The next 2 things I'm hoping to see: increase in fan attendance and then a win at home in a highly anticipated game. The LSU home game was fun but the last game I remember that was really big was Ucla playing Oregon at home under Mora. Oregon was really big and Ucla had built itself up and then the game just didn't live up. I'll hope for the fan attendance and excitement at home again first though.
