It's not his job to turn things around long-term and he's going to have to make do with the schemes he inherited. I'm not sure what you wanted him to say.
His job is to be positive, show some class, and try to get the players excited about playing again. He didn't take the bait on the "what needs to change question" or exude negativity or defeat.
The boat is listing and he just needs to limp it into the dock for repairs.
