was $142 million for FY 2023. That's just 1.2% of UCLA's $11.347 BILLION annual operating budget!

Even if the budget grew 25% thanks to B1G income, that's still just 1.5% of the overall budget; barely worth even a single minute of discussion in a one hour meeting.

OTOH, UCLA's identity has always been closely linked to its athletic achievements. From Ashe to Johnson to Robinson to Wooden, from Abdul-Jabbar to Westbrook and Wilkes, from Aikman to Waterfield, and from Ann Meyers to Dot Richardson to Jordan Chiles to Katelyn Ohashi to Kiki Rice to Laren Betts to etcetera, etcetera, etcetera; extraordinary athletes have always been a part of UCLA's identity.
