An absolute must for next season. (Remember how our recent 5 star QB did his freshman season?) I couldn't agree more, TJJ
We lost a man mountain Nose Tackle, a truly great LB and another who was awfully good also, we developed another player into a dangerous Rush End, we lost nearly our entire playing defensive backfield and our OL was also decimated. And we had to bring in players in other spots as well.
To try to play with a baby QB who had zero game experience at the college level would have been really awful - even by our own recent standards.
We landed an experience QB, the choice of our now OC, and that gives the QB room a collective chance to grow up before being thrown into the first - and did so without giving away everything it takes to fill the 20 or so other positions of serious need.
If we can show a bit of progress next year it will give us a chance to get competitive in fund raising which is essential for any hope of climbing out of the abyss and regaining some standing in big boy college football again,
What we had to have is a QB who is smart, can stay calm under pressure, has some accuracy throwing (to whatever distance he can) - and has the legs to escape by running for his life as will no doubt be an absolute requirement.
I hope he can be a good one. But we had to have one who at least could get by, And it looks like at least we accomplished that
