NIL. Seems like a great idea, but problatic. Can they stop the star of the year from doing dr. Pepper contracts? I doubt it. But maybe they could do a cba that includes caps on payments from nil collectives - good luck defining that. And it looks like the schools will be on the hook for paying the players directly, after the House v NCAA settlement. So it would probably behoove them to have a cba for that. But …… maybe I’m wrong but that would require collective representation of the athletes, and the athletes being bound by the agreement.
So it seems to me that requires that the athletes are unionized. Is there another way? Re any title 9 issues, maybe it’s a union for all D1 athletes regardless of gender, so T9 issues can be hammered out in the negotiations.
