I don’t care how many teams you select for your playoff, the teams that just missed with be able to construct arguments as to why they should have been included and the last team or 2 shouldn’t. I also think the arguments are beneficial to the product. You see fandom in action and that’s a good thing for the sport.

I don’t want to crown a champ like the AP and UPI used to. I was alsways a fan of the +1 concept if you remember that concept. All the bowls get played and then the top 2 teams play each other to determine the champ. I don’t know why they never caught on, but the BCS did a great job of determining who was chosen to play. The reality is that it is extremely rare when we can’t figure out the top 2 teams. It’s so rare that it’s not worth developing another system. We did a worse job determining the top 12 than we ever did in figuring out the top 2.
