You're missing the entire point. It has nothing to do with passing or scoring or total defense or W-L record of us vs. them. It's only about how bad their rushing defense is. Ours just happens to be a lot better. Yards per carry are even more indicative of rushing defense than total yards rushing.
When the opposition runs, USC obviously can't stop them but we do a much better job of it. That's why they lost to a team that couldn't pass at all and got run over by a team that couldn't run against any other major conference team.
And of course, one can easily read between the lines to understand what I'm implying here.
