In 10 tries, I cannot slam dunk a basketball. I could miss the first 2-3, and you could say "I want to be fair and give you a chance". But that does not change the fact that I lack the ability to accomplish the task.
The only way I can succeed is if you start changing the parameters of success. Such as "you jumped a half inch higher than last time, and thus you are improving so I will give you more chances" or "let's lower the hoop to 9 feet because that is a more realistic goal". You can carry this on for as long as you like, but I will never accomplish the original task.
