It's probably been long enough since this happened that a number of you don't know the story and of those who remember, many have been influenced by NY's disinformation campaign.

Going into the last week of the Pic'em contest, I had a one game lead over NY. But he was popping off all week about how he was going to win. Now the proper thing to do was to have both of us submit their entries by email to a third party since it wouldn't have been fair for either of us to see the other's picks. If I saw his, I could just duplicate them and automatically win. I didn't want to do that. Likewise, he shouldn't be able to see mine. But unfortunately, Patti was too naive to realize how competitive some folks are here and depended on an "honor system".

My idea was to post my picks into a virtual "closed envelope" where they were there and locked in, but not visible to everyone. So I used Google Translate to change them into Chinese. Now I am not Chinese, I do not understand Chinese and I don't even like Chinese food. It wasn't even a sealed envelope, since anyone could use GT to convert them back to English. But apparently, my opponent didn't realize that.

The next morning, when the games were about to start, no entry from NY appeared. So I waited until what would be a reasonable grace period for entry after the games started and then posted the easily verifiable English translation of my picks. THEN, NY's entry appeared. When asked why it was so late he claimed that he "forgot". Really??? Laughable. Obviously he was waiting to see my picks. So he spent the next hour whining and complaining that his entry should count, even though he not only had the advantage of seeing my picks, but seeing how some of the games were unfolding. Later he claimed the contest ended in a tie and demanded a tiebreaker. I wasn't going to play that game.

Now I've had multiple high finishes and won this contest before the pre-Patti days. If the site owner, who ran them then was still alive could verify that, but apparently he lost interest in administering the site years ago. Actually, with the format of this contest, it takes some skill to win but it's quite easy to obtain a high finish by simply picking the favorites every week.

Since then, I've tried to avoid interacting with NY because he uses every opportunity to write long diatribes trashing and insulting me. (Expect another one to follow this post.) I brought up his age, simply because as one of the elder statesmen of Bruinzone, he should act with some class. He's basically the Donald Trump of this site: an old man who's a sore loser, claims everyone else is cheating and insults his perceived enemies.

So who was playing fair?
