Having gone to both schools (UCLA undergrad), I see rooting interests between rival schools can alter based on various factors.
Beating a good SC team imo is better than beating a clown show program akin to the Sark/Kiffin years. 13-9 was awesome.
That said, I don't see UCLA, USC, or Cal fans applauding their rivals' victories during their own games. Maybe that's uniquely a Stanford thing.
