Any idea of whether this is a new position or a replacement spot?
In any case, it will be interesting to see where the person comes from. My guess is the person will come from another boneheaded athletic department, not from private industry. So, no help likely. Just more of the same.
They just hired Stephanie London Krogius as Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Development Officer. So, staffing up isn't a problem at Morgan Center.
The way budgeting typically works, Jarmond will need to spend that new B10 money somehow, or he'd lose it next year. He figures that he might as well do a little empire building. If they raise a little more money, that's bonus. If not, well, shoot. It's tough out there.
In dumb rudderless government bureaucracies like Morgan Center, one's power and status aren't determined by what one's achieved or built. It's determined by how many people report to you directly and indirectly. The goal is to make your org chart as fat and wide as possible. Nothing else matters, including results.
