- On offense, continuing to run the ball into five, six, and seven man fronts.
- On defense, blitzing while playing soft zone coverage, giving big cushions to the receivers.
- On defense, failing to pay more attention to Ashlock, who was by far Schager's favorite target.
- On Hawaii's first punt having everyone sprint away from the line of scrimmage before the ball was kicked.
- At the end of the half, with 20 seconds left on our own 9-yard line, choosing to try to pass.
- Accepting the penalty on 4th and 4 at midfield, giving them another shot at first down.
The decision to try to kick the long FG instead of going for it on 4th down wasn't a clear mistake, but probably the wrong decision.
It may not have been a bad decision, but our offensive line seemed to have no clue about blocking assignments when Hawaii rushed more than 4.
What did I miss?
They say the biggest improvement for players is between the first and second games of the season. Let's hope that is true for the coaches as well.
