My interpretation was that Bieniemy/Garbers were eager to "get on with the blowout" as soon as possible, never realizing that they were in for a game that would go down to the wire. Too many passes, lots of deep passes, etc.
Even so, passing from the end zone with 30 seconds left, when you have not scored in 2 full quarters, was a level of idiocy rarely seen.
