Says the right things, bonds well with the players, comes off as authoritative and competent. But it doesn't last because he is a mediocre coach.
I always thought he might have done well at sc or Texas where he would always have a lot of talent, could lure some really good assistants, and just ride the rah rah "players coach" thing for a while.
He benefitted for a while here by both inheriting some good players and signing even more on his own using (at that time) the traditional UCLA top-20 recruiting pull.
He's not a program builder or a guy who's going to turn a lower program around.
