He wants something to be therefore it is. For whatever reason, this mindset has proliferated in the last decade or so. We see it in politics, sports, personal interactions, almost everywhere. You take a position and it become factual to you and your comrades, even when all evidence points in the other direction.
I guess it’s most commonly explained as “getting high on the farts of your bubble”.
