The University of Southern California (USC) track and field team set the 440-yard relay world record in 1967 with a time of 38.6 seconds at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) meet in Provo, Utah. The team included Earl McCullouch, Fred Kuller, Lennox Miller, and OJ Simpson, who ran the third leg. The time is still considered exceptional, even by metric standards.
