My hypothesis is that chip wanted Ucla to make some changes. He wanted more money for asst coach salaries. Etc. Jarmond was on vacation in December, didn't meet with Kelly until mid- to late-January, told chip he'd run it up the flag pole, half-heartedly did so, got rejected (as he expected), then told chip, "sorry, no dice."
Almost simultaneously, BOB was bidding adieu to tOSU, which opened the door for chip to make Ucla and Ucla fan happy. It's a win-win.
