I agree they could use more size. I’m just not convinced Cronin sees it the same way.

He has plenty of big bodies on the roster; the issue is that only one is above 6'10". To me, that suggests he doesn’t necessarily believe you need to be 6'10" or taller to be effective in the post. He seems more interested in what a guy can actually do within his system than simply adding height.

And if we look at UCLA’s recent history, I’m not sure the available options are significantly better than what they’ve brought in before. Myles Johnson averaged 8.0 points and 8.5 rebounds before coming to UCLA, William Kyle III averaged 13.1 and 6.6, and Steven Jamerson averaged 10.0 and 7.8. None of those guys really became significant parts of the rotation.

So that’s where I question the value of spending the scholarship and the money on another big just for the sake of adding height, especially if Cronin isn’t convinced the guy is good enough to play meaningful minutes. And if there are eligibility concerns on top of that, it makes even less sense to me.

Cronin also chose not to pursue/sign Clark, which, at least to me, could be an indication that he wasn’t particularly confident about the situation or the likelihood of him being available. From what I've read, I'm not too sure they'll play either.

Honestly, I’m not convinced all of the current bigs are going to end up playing significant minutes, so unless it's a sure thing, which, as I said, maybe one or two guys are, why do it?.
