One other thing that comes to mind...imagine what is like to be an assistant coach, you find a kid that is talented, that wants to come to Ucla, etc., you invest a lot in the relationship, and then the HC dismisses the addition to the team that you believe will make the team stronger "out of hand"...oof.
I wonder what kind of asst coach turnover such assertions of prerogative will produce over time. Of course, each decision is ultimately the HC's, and it's impossible to make everybody happy with every decision. There's no "win/win" in this situation. Either the player is offered a spot or she is not. There's only so much room on the roster.
