Before becoming Tennesse's head coach, he was coach at Texas for 17 years.
In his first 10 seasons, he took them to a Final Four and two Elite eights, but in his last 7 seasons, he missed the tournament once and never got out of the first weekend. Texas fired him.
Tennessee hired him and he went 8 years getting to the Sweet 16 twice, and never further.
He's done very well the last three seasons, but I can't imagine him surviving at UCLA with that record for his first 8 years.
And if we had hired him in 2019, I suspect a lot of UCLA fans would not have been happy with a coach who had reached one Sweet Sixteen in 11 years.
