I remember after Alford was fired Rick Barnes was one of the possible alternatives - and the general view was he was a bad choice.
Now I don't think he's a super teacher, but he is a really good recruiter and he wins a lot, even if his teams don't always maximize.
Doesn't he seem like Jim Harrick, who wasn't loved when he was at UCLA, but other post-Larry Brown coaches have struggled to match Harrick's record.
Seems that Barnes has made 3 straight E8's and won 25-30 games each of the last 5 years - even though many UCLA fans claimed he only wanted the UCLA job for a cumfy semi-retirement.
