My impression last night (I haven't rewatched, I may be wrong) was that the OSU was playing for us to switch Lauren onto one if their littles, and then have the little step back for a shot. And, we were beaten by Okot on pick and rolls some. Lauren is an incredible defender, it's incredible the way she can keep guards from penetrating. But, they were getting separation when she switched last night. To my surprise, they were only 5-20's on 3's. Their back up guard shoots 49% from the field - She came in and went 9 of 18. Right on the money for her average. She didn't shoot lights out. She shot her average. The question is how did we give up 18 shots to a jump shooter who hits 49%.
Someone asked about UConn. This is all you need to know: they played Syracuse. Syracuse just beat ISU, a good, not great, team. UConn was up 65-12 at the half.
We just gave up 18 shots to a 50% jump shooter. Azzi Fudd is also a 50% shooter. But, she shoots 45% on 3's. She took 18 shots last night and scored 35 points, with no free throws. Wooten scored 18 on 18, and that carried Okie St. Fudd, same number of shots: 35 points. 8-11 on threes. I've watched UConn a few times. Only non-con games. I will not watch them play in that garbage conference. Fudd can get her shot off, despite coverage. She's human when she's covered. But, if she is not covered - if she has an open shot, she never misses. Ever. Ever ever. Ever ever ever. I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, she is for real. If we make it to the final and play Fudd the way we played Wooten.... we will be toast.
