I believe he is happier at Michigan and a better fit for their system/style of play than he would be in UCLA's system.
But like you, it's just my opinion based on all I've seen of this year's version of Mara and the wide open, fast paced style he is playing in at Michigan vs his 2 years at UCLA. Dusty May is using him differently than Cronin did and Mara appears to be having fun and benefitting from that. Plus having some big strong talented youngsters to go up against in practice is also helping him a lot.
