Don't know if Mick's scheme for team defense - which I like a lot - is so ingrained in him that he didn't go that hard after the really big men who were in the portal as not athletic and flexible enough for his system, or - more likely imo - we. either couldn't afford the ones Mick liked or it got so late in the process he didn't want to keep holding off and wind up with nothing at all so he took the best one he knew he could get - Kyle.
But the one we did get can develop into a very nice front court piece but he's no rim protector - even if he is available.
When I saw that Dailey wasn't playing against Nebraska, my hopes for that game really fell. I figured our only hope was to shoot well from outside the way Nebraska plays defense and we went from 42% from three in the month of December to 14% yestereday. That allowed NE to ignore all and just put all into the paint all game and the result was all too obvious.
I won't be surprised if we come out with good focus and energy after that loss, in spite of the extensive travel and short turnaround for Michigan, but unless Dailey is okay and playing and Clark is okay, Tuesday night could illustrate all the worst of what it means going into conference play in the Big Ten without a rim protector.
