Of course there is a but … if you are going to judge his teams … you need to take injuries into account. I know that they are part of the game but losing the national defensive player of the year and your NBA level center is a game changer … as was having JJJ playing an an ankle that needed surgery. RE: developing players … didn’t do a bad job with JJJ … or Clark … JJu maybe even Jules. A lot of top talent do not need developing (the one and done guys). Also, I think coaching O is somewhat of a red herring….you need the players to run a good O…So my issue with CMC on O is his recruiting … (or today buying) talent. I think this year’s team may suffer because CMC put a lot of his eggs in DA’s basket and DA has not yet delivered as leader. I also have a little issue with buying Dom. and not giving him the shot to deliver….I know his #’s are horrible to date but (IMO) he could be an asset given the chance. His D is acceptable but I know CMC’s head is on the block if he doesn’t produce this year so wins are more important than developing talent. I wish it were different but it is not…HE HAD TO FIELD A WINNING TEAM THIS YERA! …. The conundrum is you need a good PG to run a complicated efficient O and to date, we do not have one…(Skyy is looking better but DA is still MIA) So, again my knock would be in recruiting … here is hoping ww can draw some PG talent in the future. Finally, I feel like CMC is handicapped because a lot of talented O guys (kinda like Donnie Mac) do not want to play D and that really limits the field for CMC.
I agree that a good coach dan teach O … but he needs the players to execute and because of his D focus, CMC may be handicapped in that area. I have also questioned CMC’s decisions to run the entire O through Bona last year and DA at the beginning of this year. After last game, I hope he has seen the light and plays the guys who are producing. Out.
