If you asked everyone here what position Bona played for UCLA 90% would say center. He played a little forward with Mara, but he was a center playing forward. Kyle played with some big men at SDST sometimes, but he was a forward playing center much of the time. Look at the difference in his highlights with Bona. He started his moves 10-15 feet from the basket. Bona started his moves much closer.
But none of this is relevant to my point. We just haven't had many athletic bigs for a long time. Maybe go back to Gadzuric at the turn of the century. In fact there was one season not too long ago when the whole team had about a dozen dunks.
Chris Smith was suggested. He was listed as 6-9, but also listed as a guard. I took a sample of games and he only had three dunks in the first 12 games of his last season. But someone who had a lot of dunks in those games was Jalen Hill. Let's not forget about him.
