they're out there playing hard and being present on defense, but defense on any level of pick up games or loosely organized ball is never as tough, sophisticated, or effective as the defense one encounters in highly structured games. But you are correct about Andrej appearing very effective in that game, as as it was, and IMO he has a beautiful looking jump shot.
