Roster Limits Changing
… and sky-rocketing in some sports
Beginning the 2025-26 season, scholarship limits will be replaced by a roster limit system in which each team can choose to give scholarships to as many or as few athletes as it wants under that roster limit. The decision comes in as part of the settlement in the House vs. NCAA case, which has to be approved by the court. All sports will be allowed to offer partial scholarships.

Here’s a look at what some of the limits will be (with the previous scholarship limits in parentheses):

Football: 105 (85)
Baseball: 34 (11.7)
Men’s/Women’s basketball: 15 (13)
Softball: 25 (12)
Volleyball: 18 (4.5)

So the big-time schools will hoarde even more talent, increasing the gap with smaller programs.
