changing, and those who adapt to the changes have the best chance at survival.

But I was a north campus guy, steeped in Political Science with a heaping helping of Sociology on the side.

James Earl Jones may have told us in "Field of Dreams" that sport has been, "the one constant through all the years," but that's not really true.

American sports, whether baseball, basketball, football, or any other of a host of diversions, have always been changing. And UCLA has always been at the forefront of those changes. Witness Jackie Robinson, Kenny Washington and Woody Strode, Arthur Ashe, Don Barksdale, Rafer Johnson, C.K. Yang, Ann Meyers, Denise Curry, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Dot Richardson, and the list just goes on and on and on.

You may have been a south campus guy, with your professional background in electronics. Regarless, your perspective is different, as is everyone's. But I urge you not to let it spoil your enjoyment of UCLA athletics, especially this year's basketball team. I think they're going to be fun to watch.
