and it didn't look good recruiting wise, but he did win the conference championship his last season. That, IMO, should have been enough to give him some more time - that and his 3 final fours run coupled with his obvious coaching abilities and skills. It's possible that winning that conference championship could have been an indicator that he was adjusting and perhaps on the rise again. IMO one doesn't give up on a really good coach and, again IMO, they ended up replacing him with a lesser coach. Not such a great move. If Alford was the best they could do, perhaps UCLA should have held on to Howland a little longer and see what happened.
