If he softens up the shot a bit with a little more spin on it and a bit more arc, it will stick on the rim much easier rather than just caroming off. The really good inside shooters have a nice soft touch on the ball and when it hits on top of the rim, it has a much better chance of going in. Edey's hook shot technique is a good example for a big man near the hoop to try to copy (dunks not included in the example).
