The Purdue basketball team lost their top commit in their 2024 recruiting class on Thursday as four-star Kanon Catchings was released from his National Letter of Intent. The Boilermakers still have five commits in the class and it is still ranked 16th in the country, but losing their top commit is unfortunate. Catchings is a small forward and he is now opening back up his recruitment. Xavier, Illinois and Indiana are some other teams that were recruiting him hard in the past.
“Kanon Catchings has been released from his National Letter of Intent to Purdue and will reopen his recruitment, he tells @On3Recruits,” Joe Tipton said in a tweet. “The 6-9 small forward is a top-40 recruit in the 2024 class.”
Purdue basketball was one over their scholarship limit, so that issue has been resolved, but this certainly isn’t the way that the Boilermakers fans were hoping to solve that issue.
“Purdue’s highest-rated recruit opening up late,” Kevin Sweeney said in a tweet. “Boilers had been one over the scholarship limit, but not sure anyone expected this would be how that would be resolved… significant blow.”
