Who will receive the money?
How will it be divided?
The settlement is with the NCAA. Can the non-power 5 schools just quit the NCAA and avoid responsibility in the settlement? I mean the most stupid thing in the world would be for the NP5 (4?) schools to dutifully fund their share of the NCAA’s settlement, only to have the P4-5 schools leave them behind to form a super conference.

Can the NCAA declare bankruptcy?

Can they just fold the NCAA and reconstitute themselves in another entity? I mean, the suit was against the ncaa. To the best of my knowledge the member schools were not named individually. If not, there’s got to be a reason for that. For some reason the athletes only had an actionable case against the NCAA but not against the member schools directly?

If the schools are compelled to contribute, then they can’t just end their sports programs, they need whatever revenue the revenue sports generate in order to pay the settlement.

Anyway, if I was a NP4-5 school, I’d be trying damned hard to have the P4-5 schools contractually bound to the NCAA for the duration of the settlement period. If that can’t be secured, then I’d be working up plans for a breakaway intercollegiate athletic association. Take out the NO4-5 schools and March madness looks a lot different. 68 teams from only the P4 conferences? That takes some luster off it. Reduce the size of the tournament? The media partners would be wanting a lot of their money back.
